Under direction of the principal, assists with administering and supervising the total school program and providing educational leadership for students and staff members consistent with the educational goals of the community. Functions include establishing a climate conducive to learning, planning and coordinating programs, affecting change, and decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a climate conducive to learning
  • Plan and coordinate school programs
  • Support change initiatives and decision-making processes
  • Attend evening and weekend student activities, Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meetings, and other required functions

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in supervision, educational administration, elementary school curriculum, or a closely related field
  • Five years of successful teaching experience, with at least one year in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
  • Three years of school-based leadership experience as an assistant school administrator, central services administrator, or central services instructional specialist (resume must provide evidence)
  • Meets Maryland certification requirements for Administrator I or elementary/special education principal and supervisor
  • Successful completion of Observation and Analysis of Teaching I preferred
  • Successful completion of Observation and Analysis of Teaching II either prior to or during the first year of assignment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of MCPS policies and procedures, the MCPS elementary school curriculum, and state and federal regulations and laws
  • Knowledge of curriculum, instruction, organizational patterns, school operations, and pupil services
  • Ability to motivate, encourage, and work with staff to ensure outstanding performance and good morale
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent human relations skills

Pay

The wage range for this position is between $127,566 and $181,559.

Schedule

  • Full-time
  • 12 working months
  • Day shift
