FWS-Engineering Student Assistant - Mailing & DFX Lab Support

Responsibilities

  • Mailing, Shipping, Receiving, Facilities, and Administrative Support
  • Supports the Facilities Director in overseeing mailroom operations.
  • Assists with departmental shipping and receiving activities.
  • Maintains College of Engineering fleet vehicles, including state vehicles and golf carts.
  • Conducts inventory checks and supports equipment tracking efforts.
  • Processes and monitors facility-related requests.
  • Serves as a liaison between faculty and staff and the Facilities & Safety Manager.
  • Supports administrative tasks for facilities operations, special projects, and other departmental initiatives.
  • Engineering DFX Lab Support
  • Supports the Engineering DFX Lab by assisting the Lab Manager.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment, resources, and daily operations.
  • Maintains adequate supplies and materials for efficient lab functionality.
  • Provides assistance to Technical Services Staff (TSS).
  • Trains users on laboratory procedures and best practices.
  • Maintains lab usage to promote adherence to safety protocols and operational procedures.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must be enrolled as undergraduate students and eligible to participate in the Federal Work-Study Program.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • General computer skills and ability to maintain confidentiality and follow established safety procedures.
  • Working knowledge of basic mechanical tools and physical measurement units.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and moving items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • A valid driver's license is required, and individuals must be willing and able to obtain forklift certification if requested.

About the Role

The position offers support in various areas of the College of Engineering, including mailroom operations, fleet vehicle maintenance, and engineering lab support. It requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Requirements

Applicants must have a current Federal Work Study (FWS) award for the current academic year to apply for this position. Proof of the FWS award must be provided by saving the “Award Overview” screen from OASIS and uploading it as part of the application materials.

Pay

The hourly wage for this position is $17.00.

Schedule

The work schedule is up to 20 hours per week, based on Federal Work-Study eligibility and departmental needs.
