Fundraising Advisor & Internship Mentor (Volunteer)

About the role

Guideship is a nonprofit workforce development organization dedicated to creating career pathways for underserved communities through mentorship, internships, apprenticeships, workforce readiness training, and cybersecurity education. Over the past three years, Guideship has invested over $700,000 to develop and mature a nationally recognized Cybersecurity Apprenticeship Program, serving individuals from underserved communities and helping graduates launch careers in technology and cybersecurity.

Responsibilities

• Review and provide guidance on the organization's fundraising strategy.
• Help identify realistic fundraising opportunities and revenue targets.
• Advise on donor cultivation, stewardship, and sponsorship development.
• Recommend fundraising best practices and tools.
• Meet with the intern weekly to review progress and priorities.
• Coach the intern on fundraising outreach, donor engagement, and event planning.
• Provide constructive feedback on fundraising materials and presentations.
• Share practical fundraising experiences and lessons learned.
• Advisory on event planning and execution.
• Assist in developing event goals, timelines, and success metrics.
• Attend the fundraising event when possible.
• Transfer fundraising knowledge to organizational leadership.

Qualifications

• Passion for workforce development, education, and creating opportunities for underserved populations.
• Minimum 10 years of nonprofit fundraising, development, philanthropy, corporate giving, or grant management experience.
• Demonstrated success in securing grants, sponsorships, major gifts, or fundraising event revenue.
• Experience mentoring staff, interns, or volunteers.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.

• Succesfully coach the intern through the planning and execution of a fundraising event.
