Fundraiser (for a Nonprofit)

About the role

OUR NATIONAL CONVERSATION (ONC) is a nonpartisan, student‑run media outlet seeking volunteers with fundraising experience to help raise money for its mission of promoting civil discourse, civics education, and independent journalism. Volunteers will work alongside existing student fundraisers to identify and engage prospective donors, supporting the organization’s goal of saving democracy and journalism while developing America’s future leaders.

Responsibilities

• Identify and research thousands of prospective funders (individuals, foundations, philanthropic interests) aligned with ONC’s mission.
• Develop and execute fundraising outreach strategies, including cultivation and solicitation of donors.
• Collaborate with the current student fundraising team and mentors to track progress and report results.
• Participate in the weekly Zoom meeting (Thursday 1 p.m. PST / 4 p.m. EST) and use Slack, Zoom, and Google Drive for ongoing communication and document sharing.
• Contribute to ONC’s efforts to reduce toxic partisanship by supporting civil, solution‑focused programming.

Requirements

• Proven fundraising experience (ability to secure donations from individuals, foundations, or other sources).
• Comfort working in a virtual environment using Slack, Zoom, and Google Drive.
• Ability to commit to a weekly one‑hour meeting and otherwise manage tasks on a flexible schedule.

Skills

• Prospect research and donor cultivation.

Pay

Compensation is based on success fees for monies raised; there is no fixed salary—earnings increase with the amount of funding secured.

Schedule

Mandatory weekly meeting via Zoom every Thursday at 1 p.m. PST (4 p.m. EST), lasting no more than one hour. All other fundraising activities can be performed on your own schedule; the role is fully remote and asynchronous aside from the weekly check‑in.
