Fund Manager, Sr.

The Senior Fund Manager plays a critical role in supporting a diverse portfolio of sponsored research projects, contracts, grants, and departmental funds that advance scientific discovery and improve health outcomes worldwide. About the Department
The Department of Biostatistics at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health is internationally recognized for excellence in biostatistical research, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Faculty and students conduct innovative research in Bayesian methods, causal inference, data science, machine learning, statistical genetics, longitudinal and survival analysis, and spatial statistics. The Department collaborates extensively with investigators across UCLA Health, the David Geffen School of Medicine, and other research institutions to advance discoveries that improve public health and healthcare outcomes. The Department is home to the Master of Data Science in Health (MDSH) program and is known for its collegial, collaborative, and supportive environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-level financial analysis, research administration, and strategic fund management for complex federal, state, and private awards.
- Support pre-award proposal development, post-award administration, financial management, compliance monitoring, and award closeout.
- Interpret and apply funding agency regulations, policies, and procedures, including those from federal, state, private, and nonprofit sponsors.
- Manage University accounting principles, financial practices, internal controls, and administrative policies related to purchasing, travel, payroll, reimbursements, and personnel actions.
- Utilize UCLA financial and administrative systems for financial reporting, payroll, purchasing, fund transfers, travel, and reimbursement.
- Interpret, apply, and communicate University policies, sponsor regulations, and administrative procedures to resolve complex financial and compliance issues.
- Develop budgets, forecasts, financial plans, and accurate financial reports using Microsoft Excel and other financial reporting tools.
- Prioritize and manage a complex, high-volume workload with competing deadlines while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
- Communicate complex financial information effectively and establish working relationships with faculty, staff, students, sponsors, and campus partners.
- Manage contracts, grants, gifts, endowments, discretionary funds, and other funding sources while ensuring compliance with University and sponsor requirements.
- Identify financial risks, implement process improvements, maintain confidentiality, and support operational excellence in research administration.
Requirements
- Advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience as a Fund Manager in research administration, including pre-award, post-award, financial management, compliance, and closeout.
- Advanced knowledge of contract and grant administration, including proposal preparation, budget development, sponsor guideline interpretation, award management, effort reporting, reconciliations, financial reporting, and closeout activities.
- Working knowledge of funding agency regulations, policies, and procedures for federal, state, private, and nonprofit sponsors.
- Knowledge of University accounting principles, financial management practices, internal controls, audit requirements, and administrative policies.
- Working knowledge of UCLA financial and administrative systems and related business applications.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret, apply, and communicate University policies, sponsor regulations, and administrative procedures.
- Advanced analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills to evaluate financial data, reconcile accounts, assess risk, monitor expenditures, and prepare financial analyses.
- Demonstrated skill in budget development, forecasting, financial planning, and preparation of financial reports using Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to independently prioritize and manage a complex, high-volume workload with competing deadlines.
- Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, consultation, and customer service skills.
- Demonstrated experience utilizing financial, payroll, purchasing, and reporting systems to manage various funding sources.
- Demonstrated ability to identify financial risks, implement process improvements, and maintain confidentiality.

Pay
UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure, and certifications. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common.
