About the role
The Functional Safety Hardware Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of Kodiak's autonomous vehicle systems. This role involves performing hardware safety analyses, conducting fault tree analysis, developing technical safety requirements, and supporting system level testing.
Responsibilities
- Perform hardware safety analyses (e.g., DFMEAs) to comply with ISO 26262
- Conduct fault tree analysis and assess reliability
- Develop technical safety requirements for the Kodiak Autonomy System
- Allocate technical safety requirements to hardware components
- Design and implement hardware safety units
- Create test plans, test procedures, and verification reports at various levels
- Support system level testing from a hardware safety perspective
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure compliance with ISO 26262
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in hardware, electrical, mechanical, or related engineering
- Experience with ISO 26262, particularly Part 5 for autonomous vehicles
- Experience with DFMEAs for electrical and embedded components
- Experience with system and hardware level verification and validation of autonomous vehicles
- Experience with functional safety standards such as ISO26262, SOTIF, and UL4600
- Good communication skills and a collaborative approach
- Ability to structure project tasks and drive evidence development among teams
- Knowledge of hardware configuration management and hardware quality assurance
Qualifications
- Special emphasis on implementation of Part 5 for autonomous vehicles
- Experience with developing work products for safety critical systems
- Experience with system and hardware level verification and validation of autonomous vehicles
- Experience with functional safety standards such as ISO26262, SOTIF, and UL4600
- Good communication skills and a collaborative approach
- Ability to structure project tasks and drive evidence development among teams
- Knowledge of hardware configuration management and hardware quality assurance
Skills

Pay
California Pay Range: $130,000 USD - $190,000 USD
