Functional Family Therapist

About the Role

The FFT Therapist provides Functional Family Therapy (FFT) virtually to a maximum of 10 voluntarily participating families at a time who reside in NYC. The target population is young adults (16-25 years old) referred after an arrest. This pilot program offers FFT as an alternative to incarceration. FFT is an evidence-based, home-based, intensive family therapy model. The FFT Therapist participates in all FFT training and consultation activities, program reviews, and collaborates with other service providers, including the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice (MOCJ) and New York City Criminal Justice Agency (CJA).

Responsibilities

• Provide virtual and/or home-based clinical treatment adhering to the Functional Family Therapy (FFT) model.
• Participate in engagement efforts for referred families.
• Conduct assessments, including review of referral information, identifying and engaging key participants, analyzing systemic strengths and weaknesses, and developing an ecological context for problem behaviors.
• Engage youth, primary caregivers, and other key participants in active change-oriented treatment by overcoming barriers to engagement.
• Implement the FFT model’s Analytic Process, including problem conceptualization, treatment planning, intervention implementation, outcome review, and strategy revision.
• Maintain clear and concise documentation of treatment efforts to promote peer and supervisory review, ensure compliance with the FFT model, and complete progress notes, case openings/closings, and reporting requirements in a timely manner.
• Submit progress reports to the court or other stakeholders when required.
• Collaborate with relevant systems and key participants to ensure buy-in and cooperation throughout treatment, including regular meetings and reports to stakeholders.
• Participate in all agency and FFT model program training, individual supervision, and group consultation activities.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree from an accredited university in a field with professional licensure, such as Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, or a related discipline.
• Experience with evidence-based prevention practices.
• Competency in serving LGBTQIA+ identities is strongly preferred.
• Experience working with adolescents and knowledge of the juvenile justice and criminal justice systems.
• Preferred experience with family therapy, behavior management techniques, mental health treatment, domestic violence issues, and substance abuse treatment.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish.
• Ability to set appropriate boundaries and limits for best practice.

Pay

Starting salary range: $72,000 - $75,000 (determined by experience level).

Schedule

35 hours per week / Hybrid schedule.
