About the role

Our Nursing team member’s primary goal is to provide the most remarkable patient experience while delivering professional nursing services and patient care in the Emergency Department. The Registered Nurse follows the nursing process, including patient assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care. The RN collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to provide physical and psychological support to patients and families while adhering to hospital and departmental policies, nursing standards, and practice. The Emergency Department RN provides care for patients with various types of illness or trauma requiring emergency attention and must recognize and effectively treat life-threatening conditions.

Responsibilities

• Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and friends.
• Provide direct, professional nursing care to patients.
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
• Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies.
• Ensure safe operation of equipment.
• Prepare equipment and assist physicians during examinations and treatments specific to the ER.
• Administer medications using the electronic health record and scanning process.
• Document, monitor, and report symptoms and changes in patient status.
• Provide patient education on illness/disease and promote health maintenance and disease prevention.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient records.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other team members.
• Perform head-to-toe assessments and reassessments on all age groups.
• Interact professionally with patients/families and provide verbal reassurance.
• Formulate and update an individualized plan of care for each patient.
• Assume the role of patient advocate.
• Comply with protocols, procedures, and policies.
• Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac monitoring, rhythm interruption, and appropriate treatment.
• Prioritize nursing care and use critical thinking skills.
• Demonstrate knowledge of proper dosing and administration of critical medications.
• Document all nursing care data concisely, accurately, and completely in a timely manner.
• Communicate appropriately and effectively with all hospital staff, visitors, families, and physicians.
• Function under stressful and emergency situations with flexibility and organization.
• Exhibit professionalism at all times, showing respect and dignity to all.
• Participate in the orientation and training of new personnel and act as a resource and mentor.
• Participate in special assignments and Quality Improvement projects.
• Comprehend the triage process and prioritize patient acuity based on physical, psychological, and social needs.
• Receive all required vaccinations (e.g., flu shot) as a condition of employment unless an exemption is granted.

Requirements

• Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of North Carolina.
• Current CPR Certification.
• ACLS Certification (obtained during orientation period).
• PALS Certification (obtained within 3 months of hire).
• TNCC Certification preferred.
• Recent emergency or critical care experience preferred.
