About the role

The Patient Care Technician, Senior position is located in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at UPMC Passavant. This role is full-time, offering 40 hours per week with typical 4 ten-hour shifts without overnight, weekend, or holiday shifts.

Responsibilities

- Provide advanced patient care under RN direction, including ADLs, procedures, therapies, and patient monitoring. - Perform all core PCT competencies, including vital signs, point-of-care testing, telemetry, specimen collection, EKGs, bladder scans, dressings, catheter removal, and restraint application per protocol. - Assist with unit and patient needs, including responding to call lights, meal delivery, patient transport, and monitoring, including transport of cardiac monitored patients. - Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment while following infection control and safety protocols. - Monitor patients and report changes in condition or equipment issues promptly. - Document care accurately and complete clerical functions as needed. - Support unit operations and quality initiatives, including participation in projects and department activities. - Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to support coordinated care. - Demonstrate professionalism by building positive relationships, taking ownership of assignments, and supporting team performance and improvement efforts. - Provide patient and family education under RN direction and respond to emergent situations as appropriate.

Requirements

- High school diploma or equivalent. - One of the following: - Two years of healthcare experience. - One year of healthcare experience and enrollment in a PT, OT, PA, or related healthcare program with at least one completed clinical rotation. - One year of healthcare experience and a bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field. - Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician Senior training. - Completion of basic information systems training. - Successful completion of a basic arrhythmia course with ongoing annual competency. - Strong verbal and written communication skills. - Completion of an annual professional contribution (assigned after hire). - May transport medications between departments; limited to transport only.

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent. - One of the following: - Two years of healthcare experience. - One year of healthcare experience and enrollment in a PT, OT, PA, or related healthcare program with at least one completed clinical rotation. - One year of healthcare experience and a bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field. - Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician Senior training. - Completion of basic information systems training. - Successful completion of a basic arrhythmia course with ongoing annual competency. - Strong verbal and written communication skills. - Completion of an annual professional contribution (assigned after hire). - May transport medications between departments; limited to transport only.

Licenses/Certifications/Clearances

- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within 30 days of hire. - Act 34 Criminal Clearance. - Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal. - Act 33 with renewal. - Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.
