Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Assists in providing a safe and encouraging learning environment to meet the students' needs, interests, and abilities.
- Demonstrates professionalism, maintain confidentiality, accept constructive feedback and maintain an atmosphere that promotes student learning.
- Supports the classroom teacher in instruction by engaging in planning, following plans outlined by the teacher, and working with individual students/small groups.
- Supports the classroom teacher in assessment by monitoring independent work, collecting academic/behavioral data, and assisting in keeping accurate/current record of student progress.
- Supports the classroom teacher in organization by performing clerical duties, assisting in gathering/developing instructional materials, and maintaining an organized work environment.
- Demonstrates characteristics of an effective team member by engaging in problem solving, and exhibiting flexibility, and cooperation.
- Works continuously toward self-improvement through the active pursuit of professional development activities.
- Implements School Board and school-based policies and procedures in order to uphold school regulations.
- Assumes other responsibilities and perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Director of Educational Resources/Executive Director of Teaching and Learning.
Minimum Qualifications
- A high school diploma and passing ParaPro scores or a minimum of 60 college credits.
- A State of Delaware Paraeducator Permit required.
- Ability to work cooperatively with teachers, students, administrators, and parents.
- Experience in working with students of varying abilities.
- Excellent communication, organization, and computer skills.
- Knowledge of IDEA, 504 and IEP's.
Physical Requirements
- The position may require frequent bending, walking, running, and lifting of objects/equipment up to 50 pounds may be required.
- The position may require moving wheelchairs, assisting with toileting, feeding and other daily living activities.
- The position may require physically assisting students to engage in activities such as walking or eating, kneeling and working on the floor with students, walking for long periods.
- The position may require assistance with physically aggressive behaviors.
Pre-employment Requirements
- Criminal background check and Tuberculin testing.
- Proper identification (Social Security Card and Driver's License).
- Documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S.A.
- Completion of I-9 form.
- Completion of paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry.
