Full-Time Paraprofessional - Spanish Immersion (Spanish Speaking Side)

The Paraprofessional assists teachers by performing a variety of tasks that promote student learning and well-being. They work individually and in small groups to reinforce instruction, monitor performance, and support learning. This position also involves supporting classroom teachers in instruction, assessment, and organization.

About the role

The role is under the direction of the Building Principal and works to create a safe and encouraging learning environment. The Paraprofessional supports students of varying abilities, engages in problem-solving, and exhibits flexibility and cooperation.

Responsibilities

• Provides a safe and encouraging learning environment
• Engages in planning, following plans outlined by the teacher, and working with individual students/small groups
• Makes assessments by monitoring independent work, collecting academic/behavioral data, and assisting in keeping accurate/current records of student progress
• Supports organization by performing clerical duties, assisting in gathering/developing instructional materials, and maintaining an organized work environment
• Demonstrates characteristics of an effective team member by engaging in problem solving, exhibiting flexibility, and cooperating
• Implements School Board and school-based policies and procedures to uphold school regulations
• Assumes other responsibilities and performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Director of Educational Resources/Executive Director of Teaching and Learning

Requirements

• Speaks Spanish
• High School diploma and passing ParaPro scores or a minimum of 60 college credits
• State of Delaware Paraeducator Permit required
• Ability to work cooperatively with teachers, students, administrators, and parents
• Experience in working with students of varying abilities
• Excellent communication, organization, and computer skills
• Knowledge of IDEA, 504 and IEP's

Qualifications

• Criminal background check and Tuberculin testing required

Physical Requirements

• Frequent bending, walking, running, and lifting of objects/equipment up to 50 pounds may be required
• May require moving wheelchairs, assisting with toileting, feeding and other daily living activities
• Able to kneel and work on the floor with students, able to walk for long periods
• Able to physically assist students to engage in activities such as walking or eating
• Able to assist with physically aggressive behaviors

Pre-employment Requirements

• Criminal background check and Tuberculin test required
• Documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S.A. required
• Completion of I-9 form required
• Completion of paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry required
