About the role

The Cornell University Department of Information Science (IS) in the Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science (Bowers CIS) invites applications for full-time, long-term Lecturer or Senior Lecturer positions at Cornell’s Ithaca campus.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and master’s courses in Information Science, Computer Science, and related areas.
  • Develop new courses and teach existing courses.
  • Contribute to curriculum design and departmental life.
  • Participate in wider faculty governance and decision-making.

Requirements

  • Held a PhD or equivalent degree by August 2025.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence.

Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent degree in Information Science, Computer Science, or related field.

Skills

  • Strong teaching abilities.
  • Experience in developing and teaching courses in Information Science, Computer Science, and related areas.

Schedule

  • A typical full-time (100%) load for a Lecturer in IS is two courses per semester.

IS is located in Cornell’s Gates Hall and a new building to be completed in 2025 and has strong connections with several other units on campus, including Computer Science, Communication, Economics, Sociology, Science and Technology Studies, Operations Research and Information Engineering, and Cognitive Science.

We are seeking candidates who will contribute to a mix of undergraduate and masters courses in one or more of the wide range of topics covered by IS. Lecturers both develop new courses and teach existing courses. Current courses cover web programming and design; application development; human-computer interaction; information visualization; data science; network science; and information ethics, law, and policy.
