Full-time Lecturer - Construction Management
About the role
The Construction Management Department in the College of Architecture & Environmental Design at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking a full-time lecturer for the 2026-2027 academic year, with the possibility of reappointment to an additional year based on department needs and satisfactory performance.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate Construction Management courses.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Construction Management or closely related discipline from an accredited institution or comparable institution.
- Five (5) years of relevant teaching experience and/or professional construction experience employed in increasingly responsible management positions primarily in the US construction or comparable industry.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Demonstrated commitment to student-centered learning and teaching.
- Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous teaching and/or work experience in the areas of construction methods and materials, construction estimating and scheduling, construction contracts, and Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing.
- Demonstrated computer literacy with construction related software.
Special Conditions
- The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
- A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
About The Department
The Construction Management Department is one of five departments in Cal Poly’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design. It offers an ACCE-accredited, 4-year Bachelor of Science in Construction Management degree program, a minor in Construction Management, and sponsors interdisciplinary minors in Heavy Civil Construction and Real Property Development. The Department maintains close ties with industry and takes pride in its career-oriented programs focused on practical application. As part of the college’s commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, Construction Management partners with Architecture, Architectural Engineering, City and Regional Planning, Civil Engineering, and Landscape Architecture. The Department currently has 17 full-time faculty, 13 part-time faculty and over 500 undergraduate majors.
