About the role

The Architectural Engineering Department at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly) invites qualified applicants to apply for a full-time Lecturer position for the 2026-27 academic year. Responsibilities

  • Teach courses to undergraduate and graduate students in classroom and laboratory settings.
  • Teach courses in structural analysis and structural design courses focused on building structures.
  • Collaborate with the department to emphasize structural earthquake engineering throughout the curriculum.

Requirements

  • Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in structural engineering or a closely related field and extensive industry experience related to building structures and professional licensure, or a master’s degree in structural engineering or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language.
  • A demonstrated commitment to student-centered learning and teaching; collaboration in multidisciplinary settings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in both the academic environment and structural engineering practice is preferred with either a PhD and a P.E. license, or a master’s degree and a structural engineering license.

Pay

As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are: Lecturer A: $5,507-$6,677; Lecturer B: $6,221-$13,224; Lecturer C: $6,825-$14,523; Lecturer D: $8,593-$15,211. Anticipated hiring range: $78,000 - $92,000 per year.

Schedule

The position start date is August 17, 2026 for the 2026-2027 academic year.
