Full-Time Family Nurse Practitioner / Physician Extender

Department: Richmond County Health Department
Location: Rockingham, NC

Responsibilities

  • Perform medical acts as approved by the N. C. Board of Examiners, including medical diagnosis, treatment, and prescribing medication within the approved formulary.
  • Obtain in-depth medical histories, perform physical exams, document findings and recommendations, develop treatment plans, and counsel patients.
  • Provide care under the BCCCP Program, STD, Family Planning, Richmond Community Care Clinic, and Communicable Diseases programs.

Requirements

Knowledge

  • Thorough knowledge of interviewing techniques, medical and relevant history-taking, principles and practices of general medicine, and disease entities related to the area of work.
  • Ability to plan a course of care based on assessment and findings, including knowledge of available resources and referral procedures.

Skills

  • Adept in performing all clinical functions related to assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients.

Abilities

  • Physical abilities including seeing, feeling, touching, hearing, and smelling to perform examinations and detect abnormalities.
  • Ability to record all necessary information for evaluation and care planning, and communicate findings to physicians.
  • Ability to communicate orally, teach, and counsel individuals, families, and groups on health maintenance, preventive medicine, and care of the sick.
  • Ability to establish and maintain credibility with patients and families.
  • Ability to plan and conduct in-service training programs.

Training and Experience

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Graduation from a nurse practitioner program approved by the N.C. Joint Sub-Committee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners.
  • Approval to practice medical acts based on education and experience by the Joint Subcommittee.
  • One year of experience as a practitioner.
  • Successful completion of the Adult Health Physical Assessment Course.

Licenses or Certifications

  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • Approved to practice medical acts by the Joint Subcommittee of the N.C. Board of Nursing and the North Carolina Board of Medical Examiners.
