Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Early Childhood Special Education Teacher who is passionate and committed to working with children, supporting families, and collaborating with a team of therapists to create safe and nurturing environments where all children thrive.
Responsibilities
- Lead teacher for our infant, toddler, and preschool programs (ages 3 months-5 years)
- Create developmentally appropriate child-centered curricula, instructional materials, goals, and strategies consistent with each student’s individual needs
- Cultivate a community of belonging where each child feels seen, heard, and valued
- Create a nurturing and safe environment to meet the various needs of students
- Develop differentiated methods of instruction to meet the needs of each student
- Familiarity with various observation and assessment methods
- Collaborate regularly with our therapy team and parents
- Serve as an advocate for all students
- Track goals, update assessments, and coordinate student success plans for all students
- Experience in classroom management
- Encourage a learning environment of celebration and respect for differences
Qualifications
- MUST hold a Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Child Development, or other related field from an accredited program
- MUST have either a valid state credential in Special Education and certification in Early Childhood Special Education OR a Master’s Degree in Special Education
- Previous experience working with preschool-aged children and/or infants and toddlers (ideally in an inclusive setting) is required
- Knowledge and expertise in assessing and treating a wide range of suspected developmental delays or disabilities in the areas of fine and gross motor skills, cognition, communication, self-help and social-emotional areas
- Basic knowledge of commonly used ASL words
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, to collaborate and interact compassionately with children and with teachers, parents, and other professionals
- A deep understanding and appreciation for cultural diversity, with the capacity to engage effectively with individuals from various backgrounds
- Demonstrated understanding of individualized treatment planning and the ability to adapt interventions and differentiate instruction to meet diverse needs
- Ability to work effectively as part of a transdisciplinary team, collaborating with teachers, therapists, and other professionals
- Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for working with children of all abilities
- Flexibility to adapt to the dynamic needs of a pilot program and work in a collaborative, innovative environment
- Regular access to reliable transportation
- Commitment to continued professional development
- Conversational Fluency in Spanish a big plus!
Physical Requirements Of The Job
- Standing for 2+ plus hours per day
- Stooping, bending, climbing, and walking frequently
- Lifting up to 40 pounds
- May involve possible appropriate and physical interventions in order to maintain a safe learning environment
