About the Role

A Barista will exceed guest expectations by taking orders and serving food and beverages in the coffee shop. Duties include preparing food and drink items to standard, maintaining cleanliness, and delivering high-quality customer service. The role may require performing additional tasks as needed to meet operational demands and exceed customer expectations.

About the Organization

Opened in fall 2018, Carpenter Hotel is a South Austin hotel integrated with its lush surroundings. The hotel features a pool, community deck, and Q Hut pavilion, with 93 rooms, each including a terrace. Guests can enjoy fare from the all-day Coffee Bar or dine at Carpenters Hall. Located in an old pecan grove near Zilker Park, the hotel is within walking distance of Lady Bird Lake and downtown Austin.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all operational standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain personal hygiene and adhere to the dress code.
  • Check patrons' identification for alcohol service.
  • Explain menu items, including ingredients and preparation.
  • Take and prepare food and beverage orders to specification.
  • Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system accurately.
  • Restock items using the First-in, First-out (FIFO) system.
  • Verify invoice accuracy during deliveries.
  • Maintain cleanliness during and after shifts according to assigned side-work.
  • Communicate with all departments and management via phone, email, log books, and meetings.
  • Request time off using the shift cover book and confirm schedules with management.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained in safe working condition.
  • Stay aware of safety issues, emergency procedures, and OSHA requirements.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all patrons.
  • Perform additional duties as needed or directed.

Requirements

  • Six months of coffee-related experience in the service industry.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Valid U.S. Department of Justice employment eligibility verification documents.
  • Unexpired TABC Certification and Food Handler Certification.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) of the workplace.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with groups of co-workers and staff.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Familiarity with Property Management Systems and Point of Sale software.
  • Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions.
