Pay Rate: $22.00–$25.00 per hour. This represents the good faith estimate of the hourly wage range we reasonably expect to pay for this position upon hire, depending on factors such as the selected candidate's experience, training, education, job-related skills, internal equity, and operational needs. In select cases, and depending on market conditions or exceptional candidate qualifications, compensation may exceed this range, provided it aligns with applicable law and our compensation policies.

About the role

Assists the Manager in providing management support to create an environment that promotes teamwork, continuous improvement, learning, customer satisfaction, excellent quality of product and high standards of service. Utilizes staff resources effectively to increase business, manage workload and job costs, achieve production and provide quality services to customers.

Responsibilities

  • Assists unit manager with the operations staff, which includes hiring and disciplining of employees, setting work priorities, conducting staff meetings, evaluating performance and directing work assignments to ensure effective operations.
  • May assist in the preparation of daily sales reports to determine profitability in order to correct for the following day.
  • Makes daily adjustments to staffing and inventory levels based on sales volume.
  • Plans and prepares work schedules and assigns employees to specific duties and tasks.
  • Assists in generating sales promotion activities and prepares, or directs workers in merchandising and stocking of location.
  • Assists unit manager in daily unit operations to ensure that proper procedures and guidelines are in place and followed for provision of quality products and services.
  • Assists manager to train crew leads on proper product storage and rotation.
  • Assists checking in deliveries from vendors for quality and accuracy of product.
  • Resolves customer issues and complaints to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Supervises and trains employees engaged in food preparation, cash registers, taking of inventories, reconciling cash with sales receipts, keeping operating records, or preparing daily record of transactions.
  • May perform work of subordinates as needed.
  • Develops and maintains working relationships with customers, coworkers, vendors, student organizations, faculty, staff, and university personnel.
  • Completes opening, daily and closing procedures/checklist in accordance with company policies/procedures.
  • Assists unit manager to ensure company policies and procedures are followed: to include cash handling, food handling, safety, uniform, and meal/break policies.
  • Must comply with and ensure continued, consistent compliance with all company policies, and federal, state, and local laws/regulations including but not limited to: employment, safety, and health.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or a General Education Development (GED) degree.
  • At least one year of experience in mid to high volume convenience retail and/or at least one year of supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • An Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Convenience and Retail experience is preferred.
  • Food Handler certificate from County of San Diego preferred.
  • Strong Communications, Supervisory, And Mathematical Skills.

Qualifications

  • Language Skills: Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret general business information. Ability to write correspondence with proper spelling and grammar. Ability to effectively communicate with customers and employees. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, subordinates, vendors, other departments, customers and the general public.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply basic math concepts; calculating figures and amounts such as discounts, portions, percentages, and volume.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out general written or oral instructions. Must be able to multitask; prioritize work and attention to detail. Requires good analytical, organizational and management skills.
  • Manual Dexterity: Ability to utilize a computer. Ability to use a variety of office machines and equipment.
  • Physical Communication: Ability to talk/expressing and/or exchanging ideas and hear/perceiving sounds.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to operate food service equipment (to include but not limited to) slicers, mixers, knives, ovens, and steamers; as well as cash register and office equipment such as computers, copy machines. Ability to move, lift or carry heavy objects or materials up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions

  • Work is regularly performed in a food production area where there is frequent exposure to food fumes or airborne particles.
  • Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to humid and hot conditions as well as cleaning chemicals.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Schedule

Candidates must be available to work a flexible schedule based on operational needs. This may include opening, mid-day, and closing shifts, as well as night shifts, weekends, and holidays throughout the year.
