Full Time - Athletic Nutrition Center Restaurant Assistant Manager
About the role
This position serves as a restaurant assistant manager at the Athletic Nutrition Center within Aztec Shops, a non-profit auxiliary of San Diego State University. The role supports the manager in creating a team-oriented environment, managing staff, and ensuring high-quality service and product standards.
Responsibilities
- Hires and disciplines employees, sets work priorities, conducts staff meetings, evaluates performance, and directs work assignments.
- Prepares daily sales reports, adjusts staffing and inventory levels based on sales volume, and plans and prepares work schedules.
- Generates sales promotion activities, merchandises and stocks the location, and assists in training crew leads on proper product storage and rotation.
- Supervises and trains employees in food preparation, cash registers, taking inventories, reconciling cash, and keeping operating records.
- Serves as a liaison between customers, employees, vendors, and university personnel, resolving customer issues and complaints.
- Ensures adherence to company policies and regulations, including cash handling, food handling, safety, uniforms, and meal/break policies.
- Completes opening, daily, and closing procedures/checklists, and assists in ensuring compliance with all company policies and laws.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED; at least one year of experience in mid to high volume convenience retail and/or supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- An Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Convenience and Retail experience is preferred.
- Food Handler certificate from the County of San Diego is preferred.
- Strong communications, supervisory, and mathematical skills are required.
Qualifications
- Minimum of one year of experience in mid to high volume convenience retail and/or supervisory experience.
- Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out general written or oral instructions.
- Good analytical, organizational, and management skills.
- Manual dexterity to operate food service equipment and office machines.
- Physical demands include operating food service equipment, utilizing a computer, and moving/lifting up to 50 pounds.
Skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize work.
- Basic math skills for calculations related to discounts, portions, percentages, and volume.
Benefits

Schedule
The schedule for this position may include opening, mid-day, and closing shifts, as well as night shifts, weekends, and holidays throughout the year.
