About the role

The Assistant Housekeeping Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the high standards of cleanliness and efficiency in the housekeeping department. This position is responsible for supervising and coordinating the daily activities of the housekeeping team, conducting inspections, training and developing associates, managing schedules, and stepping in as the acting department leader when the Executive Housekeeper is away.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises and coordinates the daily activities of the housekeeping department in the absence of the Executive Housekeeper, including room attendants, laundry attendants, housemen, and public area associates.

  • Inspects guest rooms, public spaces, back-of-house areas, and all housekeeping zones daily to ensure cleanliness and sanitation standards are consistently met, completing inspection sheets accurately and thoroughly.

  • Reports deficiencies in guest room physical condition to the General Manager, Executive Housekeeper, or Maintenance Supervisor as appropriate and following up to ensure resolution and room readiness.

  • Aids the Executive Housekeeper in completing the weekly housekeeping schedule to meet the needs of the hotel and its guests while managing labor in line with financial objectives.

  • Aids with daily room assignments and special project assignments for all housekeeping staff.

  • Communicates room status changes clearly and in a timely manner throughout the shift to Front Desk and relevant departments.

  • Interviews applicants, orientates new hires, and conducts ongoing training for all housekeeping associates to increase job knowledge, skill level, and performance standards.

  • Counsels and coaches associates to encourage positive behaviors, correct performance deficiencies, and support continued growth and development.

  • Promotes teamwork and positive associate morale in all situations and interactions throughout the department.

  • Assists in cleaning guest rooms as needed based on business volume and timing demands.

  • Assists housekeepers and housemen in maintaining clean, orderly storerooms and properly stocked housekeeping carts.

  • Ensures laundry room procedures and sanitation standards are being carried out consistently; performs laundry duties as required based on business volume.

  • Inspects the grooming and attire of all housekeeping staff and addresses any deficiencies professionally and promptly.

  • Interprets and enforces company policies and procedures, ensuring all associates comply with safety programs, the Associate Handbook, and local house policies.

  • Participates in monthly department meetings to review new procedures, share updates, and solicit input from the team.

  • Works with the Executive Housekeeper and Front Office team to maintain the lost-and-found program in accordance with established procedures.

  • Maintains energy management programs and inspects for adherence as it relates to the housekeeping department.

  • Performs Manager on Duty shifts and responsibilities as assigned, exercising sound judgment and serving as the senior leader on property during those times.

  • Communicates effectively with other departments and managers using clear, professional verbal and written communication.

  • Maintains confidentiality of proprietary information and protects company assets at all times.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Housekeeper or General Manager.

Qualifications

  • A 2 or 4 year degree in business, hospitality management, or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.

  • Minimum of 1 year of previous supervisory experience in a housekeeping or related hospitality environment, or demonstrated leadership ability in a comparable role.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; bilingual in Spanish is strongly preferred.

  • Ability to function in a Manager on Duty capacity as necessary.

  • Flexible schedule availability including varying days, shifts, weekends, and holidays without exception.
