About the role
You will develop ground satellite operations software using Python and AWS services. Satellites are treated as flying servers that connect every 90 minutes, with hundreds under management. You’ll support mission-unique software development across backend and frontend for U.S. government projects while also contributing to Quindar’s core product. The role is hybrid, requiring 2 days in-office at either Irvine, CA or Arvada, CO, balancing in-person collaboration with flexible remote work.
Responsibilities
- Develop APIs and integrate with AWS services (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, Fargate, EKS) with a focus on scalability, security, cost, and performance.
- Collaborate with satellite operators, customers, and engineers to gather requirements, implement features, and troubleshoot issues.
- Optimize AWS resource utilization and automate processes to support efficient operations for thousands of satellites.
- Contribute to both government mission software and Quindar’s core product development.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 4+ years of professional experience in backend development, DevOps, or a related role (self-taught candidates with strong technical skills and product obsession may substitute).
- Active U.S. Security Clearance (TS/SCI).
Skills
Technical
- Proficiency in Python, GraphQL, Docker, and Terraform (or other IaC tools).
- Familiarity with JavaScript and full-stack/frontend development or close collaboration with frontend developers.
- Experience designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting APIs, distributed NoSQL/relational databases, caching systems, event-driven, and multi-tier architectures.
- Experience with React (TypeScript) and frameworks like Next.js, Refine, Blitz.js, or RedwoodJS.
- Strong knowledge of containerized applications, serverless architecture, and Kubernetes.
- Experience with AWS services (Lambda, ECS, EKS, CloudWatch, S3, EFS/EBS, EC2, RDS).
- Task automation and CI/CD pipeline building (preferably GitHub Actions).
- Familiarity with Git and GitLab (or similar version control).

- Deep technical analysis and troubleshooting skills.
- Independent self-starter able to complete projects on time with minimal guidance.
- High standards for software maintainability, quality, resilience, and performance.
- Strong cross-functional communication with frontend/backend engineers and product managers.
