Full Stack Engineer

About the role

We seek an exceptional, full-stack software developer with high technical competency and intellectual curiosity to join our team. To succeed, you must enjoy thinking in systems and additionally possess some combination, but not all, of DevOps, data engineering, or ML/data science work experience at scale. Most engineering roles at 8090 are customer-facing, and you must have the soft skills to design and articulate well-engineered solutions to ambiguous problems.

This is an on-site role based in Redwood City, California.

Responsibilities

• Build customer solutions with the Software Factory and help develop parts of the Software Factory itself.
• Take responsibility for the complete lifecycle of the software created, including development, testing, operation, maintenance, and support.
• Constantly challenge yourself on which software paradigms are evolving with advances in AI and how you can best leverage AI tools to improve your own practices and the team's productivity — building AI with AI.

Required skills

• Expertise in and extensive professional experience with full-stack web development — Python, TypeScript, React, Data Structures, and AWS.
• Ability to own problems end-to-end and pick up whatever knowledge you're missing fast to get the job done.
• Ability to work effectively within a highly dynamic and intelligent team, upholding 8090's founding values: engineering excellence, insatiable curiosity, a bias for action, ownership, agency, honesty, and radical candor.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities to collaborate and convey ideas effectively internally and to customer stakeholders.

What sets a candidate apart

• Deep expertise in data engineering, ML engineering, or data science — examples include integrating LLMs into products, fine-tuning models, creating evaluations, or hosting AI/ML infrastructure at scale.
• Professional work experience in DevOps, security, and cloud infrastructure — 8090 uses GitHub Actions, Docker, and AWS CDK extensively.

Pay and compensation

Expected compensation (US-based employees): $150,000 – $1,000,000 annual salary, plus stock and/or stock option awards and benefits. We offer competitive pay and benefits. Compensation may vary depending on individualized factors including location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Details of the compensation package, including benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401K), will be provided if and when a candidate receives an offer of employment.
