Full Professor of Psychology (Digital Health)

About the role

The University of Rhode Island enrolls approximately 17,000 students across its graduate and undergraduate programs and is the State’s flagship public research university, as well as the land grant and sea grant university for Rhode Island. The main campus is located in the historic village of Kingston, and the Bay Campus is in Narragansett, both near major beaches in a beautiful coastal community, within 30 minutes of Providence and within easy reach of Newport, Boston, and New York City. The Department of Psychology houses over 1,000 undergraduates and 60 graduate students, offering BA and BS undergraduate degrees, doctoral tracks in Behavioral Science and an APA‑accredited Clinical Psychology program, and a new master’s‑level program in Mental and Behavioral Health Counseling. Clinical training is supported by the Psychological Consultation Center (PCC) serving the university and the wider Rhode Island community.

Responsibilities

• Conduct impactful digital health research that applies cutting‑edge methodologies or develops novel computational and quantitative approaches aligned with departmental strengths (e.g., substance use, health equity, community‑engaged research, mental health, child health).
• Teach quantitative methods and/or content courses essential to undergraduate and graduate training.
• Incorporate justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) principles into research, teaching, and service.
• Develop and lead an independent research program supported by NIH or other extramural funding.
• Mentor and teach students and faculty in ways that include and support individuals from historically underrepresented backgrounds.
• Demonstrate leadership experience in initiatives related to JEDI and access.
• Leverage methodological expertise to develop and evaluate data‑driven healthcare solutions.

Requirements

• PhD (or equivalent) in psychology or a closely related field.
• A highly productive record of research recognized internationally for excellence and innovation, including a highly cited record of publications in major journals.
• Demonstrated success in obtaining external funding to support productive research in digital health technologies.
• Demonstrated commitment to JEDI through research, teaching, and/or service activities.
• Demonstrated ability in teaching and mentoring graduate and/or undergraduate students.
• Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
• Demonstrated proficiency in oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

Qualifications

• Research specialization that includes the application of cutting‑edge methods or development of new computational and quantitative approaches in domains relevant to digital health.
• Demonstrated ability to teach quantitative methods and/or content courses that are critical to undergraduate and graduate training.

Skills

• Statistical modeling, machine learning, intensive longitudinal data analysis, micro‑randomized trial design, natural language processing, AI applications in digital health, and real‑world data analysis.
• Expertise in justice, equity, diversity, inclusion (JEDI) principles and their application to research, teaching, and service.
