Fuel Truck Technician

About the role

We are seeking a Fuel Truck Technician for our Huntsville, AL SMA location, reporting to the Shop Manager. The successful candidate will lead safety, quality, and revenue generation across our operations.

Responsibilities

• Operate a fuel truck with Tanker and HAZMAT endorsements; refuel company equipment and vehicles, including dump trucks, tractor trailers, and heavy equipment.
• Assist the Fuel Truck Driver as needed.
• Perform pre-operation vehicle safety checks: tires, lights (headlights, marker lights, stop lights, turn signals), engine oil, power steering fluid, coolant level, fan belts, and windshield wipers.
• Maintain clean and safe vehicle conditions: keep floorboards, stepping areas, and hand holds free of trash, grease, rags, or other obstructions.
• Monitor company radio for assignment changes and dispatch instructions.
• Perform tasks requiring significant body movement and manual labor, including leg movement, wrist and arm movement, operating controls, and daily maintenance.
• Adhere to all company, client, and project policies, procedures, and standards, including the safety manual, employee handbook, and fleet safety manual.
• Report directly to the Fuel Truck Supervisor.

Requirements

• CDL with Tanker and HAZMAT endorsements required.
• Must maintain a current Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with company policy.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic (add and subtract two-digit numbers).
• Ability to follow written, oral, or diagrammed instructions.
• Ability to handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work well with others and maintain a positive attitude.
• Professional demeanor and ability to maintain composure in stressful situations, including traffic.
• Willingness to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed to support construction operations.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
• Frequently required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, bend, twist at the waist; crouch; or crawl.
• Occasionally required to stand and walk.
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

• Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and vibration.
• Moderate noise level in the work environment.
• May require long work hours (average 10–12 hours per day; up to 15 hours to complete projects as conditions dictate).

Pay

Starting wage based on experience.

Schedule

• Full-time, permanent position.
