About the role

This position performs a variety of semi-skilled duties involved in the planning, care, and maintenance of major park and recreational facilities. Receives general supervision from the Parks Area Maintenance Supervisor and direct functional supervision from the Parks Area Maintenance Crew Leader.

Responsibilities

  • Take special care to schedule/coordinate maintenance with plant needs and other scheduled functions/activities.
  • Aid with major and minor irrigation repairs as necessary.
  • Design, maintain, install, and enhance plant beds, turf areas, and sports fields.
  • Maintain parks, grounds, facilities, municipal gardens, amphitheater, trails, and other locations throughout the park system.
  • Monitor and maintain water features.
  • Identify, order, receive, install, and maintain all related materials.

Qualifications

  • At least one year of experience in commercial mowing/turf care; flower bed design, installation, and maintenance; building and grounds maintenance; sports turf management; or trails maintenance.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or the ability to obtain within 1 year of hire.

Skills

  • Knowledge of the care, operation, and maintenance of a variety of power tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of plant applications, uses, establishment, and maintenance, including the pruning and trimming of a variety of flowers, plants, shrubs, and trees.
  • Knowledge of proper watering techniques as applied to individual plant life.
  • Knowledge of plant/pest identification and related horticultural practices and applications.
  • Knowledge of pest and weed control chemicals and their proper uses.
  • Knowledge of irrigation operation and repair.
  • Skill in performing minor building repairs.
  • Skill in observing possible safety hazards and reacting accordingly.
  • Skill in operating a variety of power tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
  • Skill in maintaining a variety of plant life.
  • Skill in cleaning and maintaining assigned park facilities.
  • Skill in communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Benefits

Employees will be required to complete NIMS IS100 and IS700 within six months of hire. Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent, or the ability to obtain within 1 year of hire. Ogden City has partnered with the Utah Department of Workforce Services to assist eligible applicants with the cost and completion of adult education programs, including GED certification, with a goal of completion within one (1) year of hire.

Pay

Annual Salary: $45,756.87 - $66,347.46 FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt, Full-Time , 40 Hours Weekly, Eligible for Benefits
