About the role
New York Edge is seeking a passionate, mission-driven team-builder to fill the role of After School Program Director. In this full-time role, you will have overall accountability for the growth, quality, and success of the assigned after school program operation, its students, and staff.
The primary responsibility of the Program Director is to manage the day-to-day operations in order to ensure that New York Edge quality standards and guidelines are met and that the program is meeting all contract requirements. You will foster an atmosphere of fun and learning; utilizing a broad range of sports and arts-related activities where the concepts of teamwork, fair play, and sportsmanship can flourish and serve as a role model to youth.
Responsibilities
- Oversees program staff, program operations, services, and the implementation of programs and/or processes in order to provide services within established timeframes and in compliance.
- Conducts staff performance evaluations and development plans in coordination with Program Manager and HR.
- Provides weekly and monthly team meetings that encourage opportunities for team feedback and discussions about classroom management, lesson planning, writing prompts, and social emotional learning.
- Communicates regularly with supervisor on program updates, progress, and needs.
- Collaborates with Program Manager, Borough Director, and New York Edge Curriculum and Training Departments to develop and implement monthly all staff professional development workshops/seminars.
- Collaborate with Principal and APs on program delivery to align with goals in relation to student achievement and performance.
- Maintains program compliance, including but not limited to, student registration, staff documents, ratios, attendance tracking, IDs, and building permits.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required with preference in Education, Psychology, or Social Work.
- At least 18.0 credit hours from an accredited college or university in the field of Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years experience in urban education, youth development, or community organizing with at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with youth & adolescents in New York City in an after school or community center setting.
Qualifications
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, manage priorities and workflow, while maintaining a positive, patient, and calm demeanor, and establishing a positive team spirit with staff, students, and entire school community.
- Strong understanding of New York City and New York State education requirements in an urban setting.
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with proven ability to interact with a diverse range of individuals both in person, virtually, and over the phone, applying tact and discretion as situations demand.
- Must be able to articulate outcome requirements and provide the necessary and appropriate resources and support for school and New York Edge staff members to successfully deliver on objectives.
- Knowledge of after-school programs, supervising staff, and program planning.
- Ability to de-escalate potentially risky or difficult situations.
- Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
Skills

- Knowledge of New York City and New York State education requirements.
Benefits
This role requires you to be in-person. Pay: $58,500 - 62,500 (salary offer will be commensurate with experience and education).
