FSQA Harvest Specialist B-shift

About the role

The FSQA Harvest Specialist evaluates carcasses in a fresh pork facility harvesting over 20,500 animals per day. This role collaborates closely with USDA inspectors to assess findings and disposition carcasses with pathological concerns.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Have a high level of expertise and knowledge regarding pathological diseases impacting food safety
  • Maintain a current certification in plant’s NSIS training
  • Trim heads, evaluate viscera and carcasses for dressing and pathological defects
  • Interact daily with plant management, employees, and government officials
  • Maintain an excellent understanding of new and current federal, state, and local regulations affecting food safety requirements associated with manufacturing, processing and packing, distribution etc. (HACCP, SSOPs and GMPs)
  • Provide support to the FSQA management team on special projects and activities related to food safety and product quality
  • Aid in the development and enhancement of department programs and procedures
  • Complete understanding of the organization’s software systems (Safety Chain, M3, Carlisle, etc.) utilized to monitor/audit the production environment
  • Adhere to all Company, state and federal workplace safety and food safety regulations

Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in meat science, food science, microbiology, engineering, or related discipline with two (2) years of progressively responsible positions or five (5) years of progressively responsible positions in the meat/pork industry
  • Adequate experience to demonstrate thorough knowledge, skills and abilities of both commercial and technical aspects related to FSQA for the pork business

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Regularly exposed to hot, cold and/or humid conditions
  • Frequently works near moving mechanical parts
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles
  • Frequent exposure to animal waste and animal dust
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually loud, requiring hearing protection in all protection areas
