About the role

The Frontend Software Development Engineer will help build and evolve our unified commerce platforms across digital, physical, and emerging channels. In this role, you will create scalable, performant, and accessible frontend experiences that help millions of Trainers discover, collect, and celebrate what they love. You will work closely with product managers, designers, backend engineers, and engineering leadership to deliver intuitive, reliable commerce experiences that bring the world of Pokémon closer to fans everywhere. What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, debug, test, and optimize modern frontend features for high-traffic commerce platforms.
  • Build reusable, maintainable frontend components that support consistent customer experiences across channels.
  • Partner with product, design, backend engineering, and leadership teams to deliver impactful customer-facing features.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to evaluate technical feasibility, scope, tradeoffs, and delivery timelines.
  • Contribute to frontend architecture decisions, including application structure, accessibility, performance, and integration patterns.
  • Integrate frontend applications with backend services and commerce platform capabilities.
  • Improve application quality through automated testing, code reviews, and engineering best practices.
  • Support production deployments, monitor application health, troubleshoot issues, and contribute to incident response.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation that supports design decisions, implementation details, and operational readiness.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reliability, performance, developer productivity, and customer experience.
  • Share frontend best practices through collaboration, technical discussions, and mentorship of other engineers.

What You'll Bring

  • Five (5) - seven (7) years of relevant professional software engineering experience, including experience building modern frontend applications, or a demonstrated equivalent level of expertise.
  • Strong frontend engineering fundamentals, including experience building maintainable, performant, accessible, and reusable code.
  • Experience delivering customer-facing applications in high-traffic, high-availability environments.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • A strong ownership mindset from design and implementation through launch and operational support.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.
  • Curiosity, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Our Engineering Ecosystem

We look for strong proficiency in modern software engineering principles and the ability to make informed decisions about tool selection, system design, and implementation quality. You do not need experience with our exact stack; what matters most is foundational mastery of comparable technologies and the ability to learn quickly. Our ecosystem includes:

  • Frontend Architecture: Modern JavaScript and TypeScript frameworks, component-based architecture, state management, accessibility, performance optimization, and reusable UI patterns.
  • Content Experience: Headless content management systems, content-driven experiences, and design system integration.
  • API Integration: RESTful and GraphQL APIs supporting commerce, customer, content, and platform capabilities.
  • Quality Assurance: Automated unit, integration, and end-to-end testing frameworks such as Jest, Playwright, or similar tools.
  • Cloud & Delivery: Enterprise cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and release management practices.
  • Observability: Production monitoring, logging, performance tracking, alerting, and incident response practices.
  • Security: Secure coding practices, privacy-aware development, authentication patterns, and collaboration with security teams.
  • Methodology: Enterprise-scale Agile development and cross-functional delivery practices.

Pay

Base salary range: For this role, new hires generally start between $117,000.00 - $156,000.00 per year. The full range is $117,000.00 - $211,000.00 per year. This range is applicable for the labor market where the role is intended to be hired. The final base salary is directly related to the candidate's qualifications and professional experience uniquely.
