About the role

Fonzi is an AI recruiting company that replaces job boards and recruiter spam. Companies request to interview you and submit salary bids upfront. Each week, hiring managers at 250+ pre‑vetted startups in New York City and San Francisco review a curated group of engineers. They read profiles optimized by our team to surface what you’ve built, how you think about systems, and whether you’re the kind of engineer who ships. The companies on Fonzi include Applied AI startups, Frontier labs, Hypergrowth startups, and PE firms building lean AI teams, backed by investors such as A16z, Sequoia Capital, General Catalyst, Y Combinator, and others.

How it works: a 5‑minute application, we reach out to learn what you’re building and what excites you, then optimize your profile. Hiring managers review the cohort and request interviews with candidates they want. Companies submit competing salary bids directly to you, and you only interview where you’re genuinely interested. The service is completely free, with an iMessage agent plus humans in the loop you can text anytime for questions or help with scheduling and coordination.

Interview process (typical): screening conversation for communication skills, cultural fit, and product sense; technical deep‑dive on frontend architecture, state, and performance; coding or pairing session building a realistic UI feature.

Responsibilities

• Build interfaces that make complex AI output clear, fast, and trustworthy.
• Create real‑time and collaborative experiences across web and mobile.
• Develop design systems that keep a growing product consistent.
• Work on customer‑facing products in fintech, healthcare, legal, and developer tools.
• Scale frontends from first customer to enterprise.

Requirements

• Have built polished, fast web apps in React and TypeScript that real users love.
• Care about performance, accessibility, and the details of interaction design.
• Have built design systems or component libraries that enable a team to move fast.
• Have built interfaces for AI products (streaming responses, chat, agent workflows) or want to.
• Thrive in startup environments where the problem is ambiguous and the team is small.
• Have 2‑8 years of experience, ideally with experience at at least one high‑growth company.

Pay

$170,000 to $285,000+ base salary depending on experience and role. Many positions include meaningful equity at pre‑seed through Series B stage companies.
