Frontend Engineer

About the role

Elicit is an AI research assistant that helps researchers with tasks like literature review. We aim to increase good reasoning in the world and make it more accessible. Our tech stack includes Next.js, TypeScript, Chakra, and Tailwind.

Why we're hiring for this role

We've seen strong growth since launching Elicit Plus, our subscription service, and adding thousands of paying users. We need a strong front-end engineer to help us ship more useful functionality faster.

Location and travel

We have an office in Oakland, CA, and welcome remote work. We also have a quarterly retreat for the whole team.

What you'll do

• Build Elicit into a product researchers can’t live without
• Work with a modern front-end stack to ship useful, exciting features
• Work on a mix of known features, fixes, prototypes, and exploratory projects
• Be the biggest advocate for keeping Elicit’s bar high for smooth user workflows and making it a delight to use
• Contribute to discussions around UX, system design, and architecture

What you bring to the role

• Strong technical skills with a focus on computer science fundamentals
• At least a few years of professional experience contributing to software development teams and working on complex web apps
• Above-average communication skills
• Past experience or exposure to working with language models
• A sense of joy in what you do

Compensation

We target starting ranges of: Career (L3): $170-209k + equity, Senior (L4): $200-260k + equity, Expert (L5): $250-300k + equity.
