About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Developer with a strong focus on frontend engineering to join our dynamic team. In this strategic role, you will define and lead the development of accessible, performant, and user-centered web applications tailored for government customers. You will serve as a technical authority and thought leader in frontend architecture, driving best practices, tooling, and skillset enhancements across the organization. You will collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to deliver innovative UI/UX solutions that adhere to accessibility standards such as Section 508 and WCAG. Additionally, you will mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and champion frontend excellence to ensure the delivery of impactful digital services.
Responsibilities
- Define and drive the strategic direction for frontend engineering practices, tooling, and team skill development
- Lead the development of accessible, high-performance web applications that serve government clients
- Serve as a technical authority and thought leader for frontend architecture and engineering best practices
- Design and implement modern frontend architectures, pipelines, and deployment infrastructure
- Deliver new features and improvements prioritizing user experience and accessibility compliance
- Collaborate with product managers and designers to develop optimal UI/UX solutions, balancing technical feasibility and user needs
- Build and maintain component libraries, design systems, and shared frontend infrastructure to enhance team productivity and consistency
- Identify opportunities to modernize frontend stack and lead initiatives to improve developer experience and application quality
- Establish and promote frontend best practices including mobile-first development, performance optimization, and testing strategies
- Mentor and coach engineers at all levels, fostering career development and frontend specialization
- Influence cross-team technical decisions and serve as a strategic advisor on frontend initiatives
- Work across the full stack as needed to resolve complex problems, with a primary focus on frontend solutions
Qualifications
- Proven experience in frontend engineering with a strong portfolio of accessible, scalable web applications
- Extensive experience architecting and implementing modern frontend applications using React and/or Angular
- Deep understanding of web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA, Section 508) and practical implementation skills
- Strong proficiency in modern JavaScript/TypeScript and web platform APIs
- Experience with frontend build tools and deployment pipelines (Webpack, Vite, npm, pnpm, etc.)
- Knowledge of automated testing strategies including unit, component, and end-to-end testing (Jest, Cypress, Playwright)
- Experience with design systems, component libraries, and maintaining UI consistency across multiple applications
- Familiarity with web performance optimization, Core Web Vitals, and frontend monitoring
- Understanding of API integration patterns such as REST and GraphQL, and working with backend services
- Experience establishing CI/CD pipelines with automated accessibility checks, linting, and testing
- Strong product thinking, user-centered design principles, and collaboration skills
- Excellent leadership, mentorship, and communication capabilities
- Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain and maintain Public Trust clearance
