Position Overview
New York & New Jersey Eye Institute is seeking a friendly, professional, and detail-oriented Front Desk Medical Receptionist to serve as the first point of contact for our patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet patients and visitors in a courteous, professional, and welcoming manner.
- Check patients in and out while ensuring accurate demographic, insurance, and contact information.
- Schedule, reschedule, and confirm appointments while maintaining provider schedules efficiently.
- Answer incoming phone calls, respond to patient inquiries, and direct calls appropriately.
- Collect copays, deductibles, outstanding balances, and process patient payments.
- Maintain patient records and accurately scan and upload documents into the EMR system.
- Absorb and assist patients with forms, referrals, and appointment-related questions.
- Ensure smooth patient flow and a positive patient experience throughout each visit.
Insurance & Administrative Support
- Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and coverage prior to appointments.
- Collapse coordination with insurance companies regarding patient coverage and eligibility questions.
- Maintain confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and practice policies.
Office Operations Support
- Support daily front-office operations and administrative tasks.
- Communicate effectively with providers, clinical staff, and billing teams to ensure continuity of care.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional reception area.
- Contribute to a team-oriented environment focused on patient satisfaction and operational excellence.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 1–2 years of medical office or healthcare reception experience preferred.
- Experience with insurance verification, referrals, and patient registration.
- Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance plans.
- Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced medical environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in ophthalmology, optometry, or specialty medical practices.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance processes, and healthcare office procedures.
