About the Role

As a Food Service Representative, you'll provide a well-stocked, well-maintained department while delivering superior customer service. You'll prepare, package, and merchandise fresh products daily, ensuring compliance with food safety and sanitation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Customer Service:
    • Provides superior customer service
    • Takes orders from customers by telephone or in person
    • Answers customer questions and assists with product selections
  • Food Service / Production:
    • Prepares, packages, and merchandises fresh products
    • Slices, packages, labels, rotates, and culls products for poor quality
    • Assists in technical areas (e.g., set-up and clean-up)
  • Sales:
    • Uses suggestive selling techniques and product knowledge to meet customer needs
    • Builds department sales
  • Food Safety:
    • Cleans and sanitizes display cases
    • Operates and maintains equipment properly
    • Complies with H-E-B food safety and sanitation standards
  • Department-Specific Responsibilities:
    • Bakery:
      • Records production and shrink for planning
      • Assists in baking, frying, and decorating
      • Culls products for poor quality and expiration dates
    • Deli:
      • Manages service counter customers
      • Uses ordering systems and Fresh Production Planner
      • Performs inventory management (MSI, PAW)
      • Prepares catering orders for customer pickup
      • Maintains and sanitizes Deli slicers
    • Prepared Foods:
      • Serves and packages products at customer request
      • Educates customers on preparation/reheating instructions
      • Prepackages condiments for prepared foods
      • Cuts, slices, dices, and chops food for chefs

Qualifications

  • Age Requirement: 18+
  • Work Experience: Not specified
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
    • Knowledge of computer systems and equipment (e.g., PC, scales, label machine)
    • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills
    • Reading, writing, planning, and organizing skills
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Education: HS Diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Licenses/Certifications:
    • Completion of Company Orientation
    • Food safety and sanitation training (upon hire)

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

  • Fast-paced retail environment with detailed tasks
  • Department-specific physical demands (Bakery, Deli, Prepared Foods)
  • Exposure to wet, cold, hot conditions, and loud noise
  • Lifting requirements vary by department (up to 55 lbs for Deli, 50 lbs for Bakery)
