About the role

Candidate will be responsible to provide physical education program to develop healthy, responsible students who have the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to work together in groups, think critically, and participate in a variety of activities that lead to a life long healthy lifestyle.

Serve with a team of teachers who instruct physical education at two or more GSD elementary schools each week.

(Must have dependable transportation)

Responsibilities

• Teach the core content area(s) outlined in the USBE's Core Curriculum, and adopted by the Board of Education, correlated with other approved learning activities.
• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the child.
• Utilize effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans into productive student learning experiences which best utilize the time available for instruction.
• Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction.
• Supervise students requires both indoor and outdoor responsibilities (e.g. recess duty, gymnasium activities, etc.) in all types of weather and air quality.
• Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom through organization and appropriate discipline strategies.
• Evaluate students' academic and social growth, maintain appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
• Be familiar with and willing to implement Proficiency-Based Learning in evaluating students.
• Be familiar with and willing to implement the Granite Way.
• Communicate with parents through conferences, telephone calls, e-mails, student planners, school website, and other appropriate means, to discuss the student's progress.
• Communicate and cooperate with other professional staff regarding the student's academic and personal growth areas.
• Create an effective learning environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.
• Maintain an effective working relationship with students, parents, school staff, district staff, and members of the community.
• Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, colleagues, and members of the community.
• Understand and adhere to laws, district policies, and procedures.
• Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
• Be a positive role model.

  Requirements

  • Current Professional Utah Elementary teaching license, Secondary teaching license with a K-12 PE endorsement, or current out-of-state professional elementary license.
  • Upload a copy of your current state license with your application in order to be considered.
  • New graduates from teacher preparation programs who have not yet received their official teaching license should upload a conferral letter from their university in place of the license.
  • The conferral letter must be on official university letterhead and must include:
    • The degree earned
    • The anticipated graduation date
    • The type of license and content area/endorsement(s) in which the candidate will be recommended to the Utah State Board of Education
  • Candidates must have officially graduated prior to the position start date.
  • An official copy of the teaching license and degree will be required upon hire.
  • ESL endorsement preferred.

    • Requires a Utah State Board of Education (USBE) approved cleared criminal background check.
    • Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
    • Requires the ability to reach with hands and arms, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects.
    • Requires the ability to talk or hear.
    • Requires specific vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
    • Requires the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
    • Requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
