Responsibilities

The Freight Forwarder works closely with clients and internal team members in this key role which is the crux of our business. Key responsibilities include:

  • Effectively scheduling ocean and/or air bookings for both hazardous and nonhazardous materials, simple and complex cargo shipments
  • Ensuring the complete and timely delivery of freight by attaining knowledge from clients in order to satisfy their needs and completing paperwork that meets stringent requirements
  • Processing data through the Company’s system and obtaining consular releases as well as other government agency releases as appropriate
  • Identifying transactions and tasks that require special handling, recommending improved processes to management and implementing resolutions within assigned scope of responsibility
  • Requesting and negotiating freight quotations, including details such as container capacities, packing dimensions and weights, coding, etc.
  • Analyzing numerical data, understanding components and relationships, finding patterns and drawing conclusions
  • Composing complex letters regarding issues and resolutions, editing and proofing business correspondence and reports, and organizing, preparing and assembling documents

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Freight Forwarding Experience (preferred)
  • Prior use of CargoWise One (a definite plus)
  • Three years of experience in a role involving extensive client contact
  • Computer skills, including frequent prior use of MS Outlook, Excel and Word
  • Excellent math skills, along with the ability to calculate freight measurements, weight and convert to international units when necessary
  • Familiarity with domestic and international geography, including countries and major cities
  • Extreme attention to detail, including the ability to predict and circumvent issues before they occur and taking the proper corrective action
  • Ability to be highly productive while keeping cool under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of freight logistics and customs regulations
  • Understanding of trade laws and regulations
  • Fluency in English (required), with knowledge of additional languages a plus
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with logistics software and systems (preferred)

Pay

The expected base pay range for this position is $20-$27 per hour. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, in accordance with applicable laws and company policy.
