Freight Audit Intern - Summer 2027

About the Role

Ruan is hiring a Freight Audit Intern for Summer 2027. This full-time position will work a mix of on-site at our downtown Des Moines campus and remotely. The intern will work directly with carriers to resolve invoice inaccuracies, provide aging reports, and manage customer billing. The role involves extensive use of Excel for data reporting and analysis, offering exposure to various projects and activities in the transportation business. This internship aims to develop college students pursuing careers in supply chain, transportation, accounting, or related fields.

Responsibilities

• Maintain regular communication with carriers to ensure timely receipt of freight bills and supporting documentation, reconcile and resolve past due amounts.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for freight rating issues and carrier disputes.
• Manage invoicing exceptions discovered after automated system audits and manual reviews, resolving them to maintain invoice aging under 60 days from delivery.
• Monitor carrier exception resolution using Carrier Audit Reports, Carrier Aging Reports, and other tools.
• Prepare error-free weekly customer bills in compliance with agreed-upon requirements.
• Respond to ad hoc customer requests for billing information and supporting documents.
• Interpret carrier tariffs to communicate with carriers for invoice resolution and recommend pricing improvements.
• Work with the EDI Support team to identify EDI failures and pursue opportunities for electronic invoicing.
• Communicate with the Operations team for accessorial or rate approvals and shipment completions.
• Interact professionally with customers and carriers via email and phone.
• Create and maintain a weekly and monthly schedule to work independently, adjusting as needed with supervisor input.
• Perform other job-related duties and special projects as required.

Qualifications

Pursuing a degree in supply chain, transportation, accounting, or a related field. Strong Excel skills and the ability to analyze and compare customer data are essential.
