About the Role
Leads a team of hourly employees in a frozen warehouse to achieve goals, solve problems, and maintain a strong commitment to employee safety while fostering teamwork and clear communication among all team members.
Responsibilities
- Manage incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
- Study shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules.
- Oversee finished goods inventory and inventory control, including performing and monitoring the cycle counting process.
- Maintain product and building security.
- Collaborate with customer service to report and address unforeseen circumstances.
- Utilize WMS software to track materials and finished goods inventories (receiving, storage, picking, staging, etc.).
- Promote and enforce a safe work environment, complying with Simmons, OSHA, and government safety, environmental, and food-handling regulations.
- Direct and supervise employees’ work activities, monitor performance, and administer disciplinary actions in collaboration with HR.
- Screen, interview, and hire candidates with HR support.
- Recommend compensation decisions based on performance guidelines.
- Foster a cooperative and harmonious work environment to enhance employee morale and productivity.
- Participate in team development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies.
- Attend team meetings and contribute to team cohesiveness on major issues such as direction, annual plans, and policy changes.
- Identify and address areas lacking cohesiveness, working with the team to resolve issues and achieve synergy.
- Support Simmons’ operating systems (e.g., quality, security, LEAN) and communicate concerns or improvement ideas.
- Perform additional duties as necessary to support business objectives.
Requirements
- Willingness to lead, take charge, and provide direction.
- Proficiency in reading and writing English.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and cost management for effective manufacturing and distribution.
- Understanding of business and management principles, including strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources, and leadership techniques.
- Familiarity with computers and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
- Preferred experience within frozen distribution and/or food processing.
- Bachelor’s Degree or 4 years of related work experience, including at least 1 year in a leadership role.
- Preferred: Certified Supply-Chain Management Professional.
- Military experience is valued and welcomed.
Physical Activities
- Enter and locate information on a computer, including visually verifying small print.
- Communicate with customers, vendors, or employees via telephone, in person, or electronic mail.
- Present information to small or large groups.
- Work in freezer environments and various temperatures.
- Move about in a manufacturing environment and surrounding property.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Freezer suit.
- Composite/steel toe boots.
- Other protective equipment as required.
Travel
Domestic travel to multiple facilities or work-sites may be required, possibly including overnight stays.
