Freelance Proofreader/Copy Editor

About the role

Freelance Proofreader/Copy Editor position supporting Tennessee State Parks and The Tennessee Conservationist magazine. The role involves bi‑monthly proofreading and copy editing of a 44‑page magazine in Adobe InDesign, as well as ad‑hoc proofreading of marketing materials such as brochures, flyers, menus, trail maps, and other promotional/informational items. Fluency in Spanish is particularly encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Proofread and copy edit the 44‑page Tennessee Conservationist magazine every two months in InDesign for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and AP style.
• Proofread various marketing materials on an as‑needed basis, including brochures, flyers, menus, trail maps, and other promotional/informational items.

Requirements

• AP Style Expert (10+ years of experience).
• Adobe InDesign proficiency (4‑6 years).
• Proofreading/Copy Editor proficiency (4‑6 years).
• Adobe Acrobat proficiency (4‑6 years).
• Advanced verbal and written communication skills (7‑9 years).
• Teamwork proficiency (4‑6 years).
• Microsoft Office Professional proficiency (4‑6 years).
• Fluency in Spanish is encouraged.
