Proofreader - Freelance or Contract-to-Hire

About the role

BNO is a full-service advertising agency with a niche specialty in Healthcare/Pharmaceuticals and Pharma Marketing. We’re looking to add a proofreading expert with experience in pharmaceutical and medical promotional materials, including electronic media, presentations, brochures, social media, package inserts, instructions for use booklets, and packaging. The focus is on producing high-quality, detailed work based on established standards, guidelines, and procedures. This role requires precision, consistency, and patience, with a methodical approach to completing tasks error-free in a stable, well-defined environment.

The position is designed to develop a valued technical expert who delivers quality work consistently, supported by structured training and coaching from management and peers.

Responsibilities

• Support the work of Creative and Client Service Teams across all Agency Departments.
• Serve as a key player in the Healthcare & Pharmaceutical Communications Department, supporting 40+ client brands.
• Maintain editorial and promotional consistency across a range of communications.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and brand requirements.
• Compare documents to source material to verify consistency and accuracy.
• Identify mistakes in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and layout.
• Act as the subject-matter expert (SME) and guardian of the brand.

Requirements

• 5+ years’ experience as a proofreader.
• Experience proofreading healthcare and pharmaceutical promotional materials (required).
• Experience working within an agency setting (strongly preferred).
• Proficiency with AMA style guidelines and Adobe Acrobat (preferred).
• Experience proofreading documents in an online system (preferred).
• Energetic and inquisitive mindset with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Must be located within a 60-minute drive of Somerville, NJ, to attend quarterly in-person team meetings.

Pay

Salary range: $55,000 - $70,000, with the final offer based on individual candidate experience.
