Responsibilities
- Perform sophisticated data analytics—including statistical analysis, predictive modeling, machine learning, neural networks, and natural language processing—using both structured and unstructured data.
- Create compelling data visualizations to communicate insights and influence business decisions across a wide range of stakeholders.
- Own end-to-end data science solutions: design, technical delivery, and measurable business outcomes.
- Engage with stakeholders to define business objectives and scope solution requirements.
- Write, document, and deploy custom code in Python, SAS, R, and other environments to build predictive analytics applications.
- Maintain, share, and collaborate on code via Truist’s internal repositories to foster learning and skill-sharing.
- Research and advocate for emerging data science methods and technologies to advance Truist’s capabilities.
- Exercise sound judgment and promote a risk-aware culture in design, development, and deployment; partner with cross-functional teams on data governance and usage policies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (Finance, Mathematics, Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, or Engineering) and four or more years of relevant experience, or equivalent education and training.
- Strong understanding of statistical methods: classical statistics, probability theory, econometrics, time-series analysis, and primary statistical tests.
- Familiarity with linear algebra concepts: optimization, matrix operations, eigenvalue decompositions, and principal component analysis; working knowledge of calculus, differential equations, and stochastic processes.
- Proficiency in data cleansing and preparation: regex, filtering, indexing, interpolation, and outlier treatment.
- Experience extracting data in SQL, JQuery, and other environments.
- Working knowledge of Hadoop, Pig, Hive, NoSQL, and/or Spark.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines in a collaborative setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or PhD in a quantitative field (Finance, Mathematics, Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, or Engineering).
- Four years of relevant work experience if no graduate degree.
- Prior experience in banking or fin-tech industries.
Other Job Requirements
- Primarily sedentary role (sitting more than 50% of the time).
- Ability to access and interpret client information on a computer; hear and speak with individuals in person and by phone.
- Manual dexterity for standard office equipment (keyboard, mouse, copier/fax, printer).
- Availability to work scheduled hours, including overtime as needed.
- Minimal travel (up to 10%).
