About the role
We are looking for an experienced Underground Construction Superintendent to provide senior leadership and overall accountability for all scheduled and unscheduled construction activities at Fourmile. This role ensures work is strategically planned, resourced, and executed in a safe, environmentally responsible, efficient, and cost-effective manner. You will lead multiple crews and supervisors, drive long-range construction planning and budget performance, and partner with senior operational leadership to deliver major projects on schedule.
Responsibilities
- Lead from the field through visible felt leadership across surface and underground operations, setting the tone for safety and performance, coaching supervisors, and holding crews accountable to standards.
- Drive a culture of accountability by evaluating performance, developing supervisors, and championing rigorous risk assessment through FLRA and TRA.
- Own the development and progress of underground and surface construction.
- Lead the safety and environmental performance for the construction team by reviewing hazard identification and incident reports (including RIMS), driving closure of corrective actions, and coaching the team on lessons learned.
- Own the construction plan end-to-end, set priorities to meet safety, environmental, equipment, and production targets, and exercise full authority to sequence and prioritize work.
- Lead quality incident investigations (injury, significant near-miss, environmental excess emission, and/or deviation) with disciplined analysis and practical corrective actions, ensuring implementation, tracking, and sustainability.
- Direct the execution of scheduled and break-in work, driving continuous improvement and reporting to the Mine Manager.
- Develop and grow the team by delivering annual performance reviews for all direct reports and leveraging crew 360’s to build capability and succession.
- Champion continuous improvement, initiating and driving plant changes and improvement plans through the MOC system.
- Drive alignment across daily construction and weekly commitment meetings, securing buy-in and commitment to the weekly schedule from all stakeholders.
- Actively advance environmental (EMS), safety, and health programs, leading by example through the RIM’s tool.
- Drive the identification, development, and optimization of standard jobs (resources, parts, tooling, task lists, and staging) and enforce the use of standard job plans across all plant outages and routine work.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- 10+ years of practical experience in the underground industry, with a proven track record in underground mining construction.
- Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience, including managing supervisors or superintending crews in an underground environment.
- Direct experience working in an underground environment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage construction budgets, schedules, and contractors on major underground projects.
- Strong knowledge of incident investigation, MOC, and safety and environmental management systems (preferred).
