About the role

The Relationship Company, PBC is a venture-backed public benefit company building an AI-powered social platform for meaningful in-person connection, supported by early investors in Facebook, Slack, and Notion including Elad Gil and Mark Pincus.

Join a mission-driven team as one of the first engineering hires, building AI-powered systems that facilitate real-world connections. You will own the full product loop—from user research to shipping complex features—leveraging predictive models to help people find friends, mentors, and partners, while scaling a platform with industry-leading retention and engagement metrics.

Location: San Francisco, USA

Why this role is remarkable

  • True Product-Market Fit: Experience 10x Tinder's match-to-date conversion and better retention than every major dating app, scaling a platform people demonstrably want.
  • Elite Backing: Work alongside a second-time founder and investors who were early in Facebook, Airbnb, and Notion, including Mark Pincus and Elad Gil.
  • High Impact AI: Build and deploy sophisticated matching systems with 90% AUC that solve loneliness by prioritizing meaningful, in-person relationships over infinite digital feeds.

What You Will Do

  • Manage a fleet of AI agents to own features end-to-end, including frontend, backend, and model training for predictive compatibility systems.
  • Collaborate directly with the founder to translate weekly user research insights into technical decisions and ship high-impact features with speed.
  • Build sophisticated recommendation systems and UI for local events, helping users bridge the gap from digital matching to real-world interaction.

The ideal candidate

  • Full-stack expertise with React and TypeScript, plus proficiency using AI coding tools like Claude Code or Codex to accelerate development.
  • Proven track record of building and shipping consumer products end-to-end with deep empathy for user experience and product craft.
  • High degree of autonomy and curiosity, comfortable making technical and product decisions in an ambiguous, fast-paced "0 to 1" environment.
