Founding BDR
Role Responsibilities
Own top of funnel. Outbound email, cold calling, LinkedIn, events, communities, DMs, video, whatever actually gets a reply - you pick the channels and prove them out.
Run two motions at once: high-volume outbound to SMB e-commerce brands, and targeted, researched, multi-threaded outbound into enterprise accounts.
Build and maintain your own lists, ICP definitions, and data sources. You're not waiting on someone to hand you accounts.
Get genuinely fluent in what breaks in e-commerce retention programs - the manual segmentation, the campaign bottlenecks, the agency spend, the flat retention numbers - and lead every conversation with that, not with a product pitch.
Write your own copy, test it relentlessly, and kill what doesn't work fast.
Pick up the phone. A lot. Cold calling is a real part of this role, not a checkbox.
Build the outbound stack from scratch - sequencers, data enrichment, signal-based triggers, AI-assisted research and personalization at scale.
Partner with the founding team and AEs on messaging, ICP refinement, and qualification - then feed everything you learn back into the go-to-market motion.
Document what works. Sequences, call frameworks, objection handling, dashboards - build the system, don't just hit the number.
What We're Looking For (ideally)
- An AI-first operator - your default instinct is to use AI to do the work of three BDRs. Research, list building, personalization, call prep, follow-up.
- 1-4 years in an outbound-heavy role, or a track record somewhere else that proves you can grind, learn fast, and win.
- Genuinely hungry. You measure yourself in meetings booked and you're competitive about it.
- Comfortable on the phone with strangers who didn't ask to hear from you, and unbothered by rejection at volume.
- Strong writer. You can write a cold email that sounds like a human and gets a reply. Range across both motions - you can run volume when volume is right, and slow down to build a real point of view on a $500M brand when that's what the account needs.
- Curious about the space. You'll be expected to understand our customers' problems better than most marketers do, fast.
- Ownership mentality. You spot the gap and fill it without being asked.
Bonus, not required
- Experience selling into e-commerce, retention, or MarTech
- Familiarity with the retention stack (Klaviyo, Postscript, Attentive)
- Built or scaled an outbound motion from zero before
- Industry experience is not a requirement
