Fossil Project Manager (Remote)

About the Role

Our client, a major energy generation company, is seeking a Fossil Project Manager to lead its Engineering & Construction (E&C) organization's involvement in gas project development, spanning technology due diligence and FEED studies through construction readiness. This is a high-visibility, cross-functional role sitting at the intersection of Generation Development, Integrated Supply Chain, and E&C. The successful candidate will thrive in an origination-driven environment and bring a disciplined approach to budget, scope, and schedule management, risk identification, and team leadership.

Responsibilities

• Manage assigned projects day-to-day to ensure timely, cost-effective, and competitive delivery.
• Represent E&C in gas project technology and commercial due diligence, assessing constructability, site integration, utility interconnection requirements, and preliminary cost positioning across competing technologies (combined cycle, simple cycle, peaking).
• Identify and document E&C-specific technology and commercial risks, including balance-of-plant configuration options, equipment and contractor supply chain availability, and site-specific civil and interconnection constraints.
• Provide E&C technical and commercial input into OEM and contractor meetings, site visits, and technology assessments to ensure construction and engineering considerations are represented early.
• Coordinate with E&C subject matter experts on balance-of-plant and interconnection requirements, including switchyard and transmission infrastructure, gas and water supply, and emissions/wastewater compliance.
• Lead E&C's participation in Technology Review, capital estimate and schedule development, and Preliminary Engineering across active gas projects.
• Maintain a risk register tracking scope, schedule, cost, and constructability risks, and flag when development-driven scope changes introduce E&C risk.
• Coordinate E&C SME resources for site configuration reviews and risk assessments, and support commercial offtake, permitting, and interconnection processes by tracking construction-phase dependencies against regulatory milestones.
• Partner with Integrated Supply Chain on procurement support, including RFQ input, technical/commercial scope review, and bid evaluation for major equipment and EPC/EPCM scopes.
• Lead bid evaluation, comparing E&C estimates to contractor proposals and flagging material variances for scope alignment review.
• Lead bid recommendation and contract negotiation to secure high-value contracts at acceptable levels of risk.
• Lead schedule development, cost benchmarking, cashflow modeling, and risk-adjusted cost positioning to support project sanction decisions.
• Maintain and report on the E&C risk register, keeping leadership informed of emerging risks, mitigation actions, and residual exposure.
• Support continuous improvement of E&C project development workflows, including integrating project data and risk tracking into project management platforms.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in energy project development or large capital construction, with demonstrated leadership in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
• Experience in EPC/EPCM project delivery, cost estimating, schedule development, and project risk management for gas generation projects.
• Experience with major equipment and EPC/EPCM contract procurement, including bid preparation, evaluation, negotiation, and award.
• Proven ability to lead through ambiguity in early-stage, origination-led development programs.
• Proven ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including executive management and public officials.

Skills

• Experience with combined cycle or simple cycle gas development across multiple geographies and regulatory environments preferred.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Project or Primavera scheduling software preferred.
• Ability to lead across organizational boundaries without direct authority.
• Strong track record of surfacing risks before they become problems.
• Skilled at bringing structure and discipline to ambiguous, early-stage development environments.
• Comfortable operating in OEM technical meetings, leadership budget reviews, and public hearings alike.
