About the role

In a climate controlled environment, the shipper is responsible for all outbound finished goods, including taking finished goods from the line to the warehouse. This is a 12 hour shift position which operates on a 2-2-3 shift pattern and rotates from days to nights every 4 weeks.

Routine Primary Tasks

  • Ensure that all material handling functions on your crew are carried out in a safe, efficient and timely manner to ensure smooth operations and production.
  • Periodically contact your Crew Leader so proper communication can be maintained.
  • Communicate verbally and/or in writing to your relief, Crew Leader, and the Production Manager as required.
  • Ship finished goods and other materials, ensuring the correct product is shipped and the paperwork is properly completed.
  • Receive supplies and store properly.
  • Mop or sweep the warehouse floor as necessary to maintain a clean and safe operation, and perform other housekeeping tasks as directed by the Crew Leader.
  • Help maintain inventories of production supplies. Report low quantities to your Crew Leader.
  • Work as a member of a team.
  • Ensure truck drivers and other non-Domtar personnel stay out of unauthorized areas.
  • Properly train other employees to your classification.
  • Maintain operating supplies in good order, ensuring you rotate older supplies.
  • Maintain area for scrap plastic, paper, cardboard, and other recyclables.

Routine Tasks

  • Properly sign and date all receiving documents.
  • Know and abide by all general plant rules, policies and procedures.
  • When ream wrap comes in, remove all old wrap and put new wrap in row. Put old wrap in behind so it will be used first.
  • Travel slow and safe.
  • Keep all dunnage up. This includes wood and air bags. Rubber mats, or other dunnage must be removed from trucks when they are unloaded also.
  • Relay all necessary information at shift change about trucks, roll stock in use, ream wrap in use and change overs coming up, etc.
  • Always work safely and communicate with your crew leader.
  • Be responsible in your position and if you have questions, ask someone.

Safety

  • Know and abide by all safety rules and regulations as set forth by our safety program and plant rules.
  • Correct any unsafe condition and act immediately. Report to your Crew Leader as needed.
  • Follow the equipment lock out procedure.

Quality

  • Perform all assigned quality control duties and assist other crew members in monitoring quality.
  • Understand all quality control specifications required of position.
  • Inspect shipping trailers for leaks or other abnormal conditions and reject as necessary.

Production

  • Help with the running of operations such as cleaning sheeter jams, fill bodies or lids, put labels in, help with start-up, etc.
  • Empty trash hoppers and dump properly, keeping outside grounds free of debris.
  • Give proper relief, on the job to the oncoming Material Coordinator or Shipper, leaving relief in good operating condition.
  • Give proper relief as designated by the Crew Leader in areas you are qualified.
  • Maintain area while working as relief.
