About the role

This position is responsible for safely picking up, storing, loading transports, and setting non-drivable vehicles for sale using a Front End Loader/Forklift equipped with 18-foot forks. Vehicles vary in size and condition, often with loose or hanging parts, requiring attention to detail and safety to protect employees and customers. The role also includes providing general mechanical and automotive services on Auction property, as well as over-the-road and on-site towing service for disabled customer vehicles, all in compliance with Auction safety rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily pre-trip safety inspections before beginning work for the day.
  • Make minor adjustments and/or request repairs in writing to the mechanic or supervisor.
  • Safely load, unload, rearrange, and maneuver a Forklift/Loader with 18-foot forks throughout the auction lot.
  • Read stock numbers on the computer screen and verify the stock number and vehicle information directly from the vehicle before loading onto forks.
  • Move vehicles to inventory staging, sale stalls, or storage as determined by lot location paperwork or computer screens.
  • Operate tow trucks, service vehicles, gas trucks, and forklifts on the auction lot and at different locations as needed.
  • Move vehicles into the garage or other sheltered areas for insurance inspections, repairs, or as requested by the supervisor.
  • Load vehicles onto transports or fleet trucks for transportation off the lot.
  • Present data to other teams and management as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum: High School Diploma/GED.
  • Generally less than 2 years' experience in a related field.
  • Valid driver's license required; safe driving record necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 to 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Effective communication and organization skills.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to utilize portable terminals.
  • Commitment to providing excellent customer service.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, reach, talk, and hear for prolonged periods.
  • Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, squatting, and climbing.
  • Ability to spend prolonged periods sitting in the cab of a forklift/loader.
  • Vision abilities including close, distance, and color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to remain focused and vigilant regarding surroundings and hazards on the lot.

Work Environment

  • Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
  • Potential to spend up to 50% of shift outdoors and outside the cab.
  • Driving and maneuvering forklifts in difficult situations with light to heavy crowds and traffic.
  • Loading and unloading vehicles in various weather conditions.

Pay

Hourly pay rate ranges from $15.10 to $22.69 per hour. The base rate may vary within this range based on factors such as location and the candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. The position may also be eligible for additional compensation, including commission and/or incentive programs.
