About the role

The Field and Research Service Unit (FRSU) is a component of OSU Ag Research that conducts research on agriculture, natural resources, rural economies, and social issues to improve the lives of Oklahomans. The unit includes research stations covering diverse Oklahoma environments and campus-based facilities like the Controlled Environmental Research Lab, Stored Products Research Center, multiple greenhouses, and core lab facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing and maintaining forest research projects.
  • Manage, organize, summarize, and write reports for large data sets.
  • Provide on-site supervision of graduate students and student employees in the field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Biology, Plant Ecophysiology, or a related field, conferred by the start date.
  • One year of related field experience and/or natural resources coursework with field/lab experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and a cell phone capable of communication.

Qualifications

  • Must be dependable, work independently, and have a service attitude.
  • Ability to work with faculty, staff, technicians, and graduate students from various departments within and outside DASNR, as well as the public and visitors to the research station.
  • Knowledge of forest or related plant measurements, operation of complex equipment, experimental design, statistical analysis, proficiency in appropriate software, data logger deployment and programming, ability to operate motor vehicles and work outdoors in difficult terrain, ability to write for a scientific audience, ability to present results to varied audiences, and greenhouse maintenance abilities.
  • Demonstrated competency and effective use of computing and computer-based communications technology.

Skills, Proficiencies, And/or Knowledge

  • Maintain stewardship of available resources.
  • Forest or related plant measurements, operation of complex equipment, experimental design; statistical analysis; proficiency in appropriate software; data logger deployment and programming; ability to operate motor vehicles and work outdoors in difficult terrain; ability to write for a scientific audience; ability to present results to varied audiences.
  • Greenhouse maintenance abilities.
  • Proficiency in computing and computer-based communications technology.
