Forest Technician

About the role

This position supports forestry staff by carrying out technical fieldwork that strengthens forest habitat across State Game Lands. You will work outdoors while supporting important conservation efforts across State Game Lands.

Responsibilities

• Timber Marking: Survey boundaries, identify trees, and compute timber volumes according to the forester's instructions
• Field Data Collection: Assist with gathering and entering stand data, sale layout information, and other forestry observations
• GPS Mapping: Collect GPS data and produce maps that support habitat management decisions
• Habitat Maintenance: Support herbicide applications and maintain tools and equipment used in forest habitat work
• Fire Support: Assist with wildland and prescribed fire activities and complete required training for certification

Qualifications

• Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: An associate’s degree in forest technology; or Completion of equivalent formal education in forestry. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
• Other Requirements: PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title. You must be able to perform essential job functions.

• This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law. A conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
