The New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute provides care to New Mexicans across six different divisions including hospital level inpatient psychiatric care for both civil and forensic commitments, residential treatment for adolescents, outpatient care for people with behavioral health disorders, detox and residential substance use treatment, and skilled/long-term care. As the largest behavioral health complex in the state, inpatient/residential care is provided to over 250 New Mexicans every day, along with 400 outpatient clients a month. There are over 600 employees across all the divisions of NMBHI to ensure high-quality treatment and care is delivered.
Why Does the Job Exist?
Incumbent will be responsible for providing nursing care to meet the needs of the patients in the Adult Psychiatric Division/CARE Incumbent will be responsible for providing direction/guidance to direct care staff and implementation/direction of all nursing activities towards common hospital goals.
How Does It Get Done?
- Administer all types of medications to include oral and injectable for the purpose of relieving anxiety, controlling behavior and treating physical problems.
- Perform various treatments ordered by the physicians to assure patient's optimal physical/mental well being.

Minimum Qualification
- Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and three (3) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.

- Must obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate
- SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITIONS--This position ls designated as safely sensitive. Employment Is subject to pre-employment and random testing.
Working Conditions
- Work in a hospital and office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage.
- Exposure to mentally and behaviorally challenged residents who may exhibit unpredictable and sometimes violent behaviors in volatile situations required.
Bargaining Unit Position
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement and all terms/conditions of that agreement apply and must be adhered to.
