Position-Specific Performance Expectations, Duties, And Responsibilities
- Triage patients to determine if a medical exam is needed before a forensic exam.
- Carefully coordinate care between all agencies involved in assisting sexual assault victims and provide referrals for necessary medical and psychological follow-up.
- Perform a comprehensive physical and forensic evidence collection examination, including a thorough genital examination, forensic specimen collection, and documentation (including photography).
- Accurately conduct and document a sexual assault and forensic interview.
- Administer appropriate prophylactic medication according to protocols.
- Follow Forensic Nursing Program protocols and perform all duties as required.
- Testify as a fact or expert witness in any/all cases performed while FNE and coordinate with attorneys during the judicial process.
- Attend 75% of monthly staff meetings in a year.
- Participate in professional development by attending conferences, webinars, and other available trainings.
- Share individual expertise with other members of the Forensic Nursing Program.
- Debrief as needed to maintain emotional and physical wellness.
- Respond to victim service needs within one hour when on call.
- Maintain client privacy and confidentiality and report mandatory reporting requirements.
- Develop and implement clinical policies and procedures.
- Show independent work initiative, sound judgment, and attention to detail.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years old (21 for positions requiring driving, with a valid driver’s license).
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must successfully pass a background check.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable).
- Must complete an Employee Health meeting prior to starting employment.
- Required: Current Colorado Registered Nurse (RN) license or Compact license.
- Preferred: SANE training completed six (6) months from date of hire.
- Required: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or obtained within 90 days of hire).
- Experience: One (1) year clinical experience.
- Prior to hiring, must complete initial FNE training and preceptor requirements as identified by the FNE program.
